Think of film piracy like the drugs trade, but much more profitable
(according to the studios), and much lower penalties.
And also like the drugs trade, there's not a lot of point in chasing the
small guys. The odd camcorder used by a guy who wants to look big to a dozen
of his mates isn't hurting the studios - it's the organised duplication
syndicates. As with the legal labs making legal prints and DVDs, there only
need to be a few, and only a very few cammers.
I'm also surprised that the anti-piracy dots on prints aren't simply deleted
by the priates before they go to duplication: but I guess they only need to
miss one code and they are busted.
