The act of watching once and retaining the images for density,
balance, sharpness, and all the dozens of other qualities, over some x
period of time, and duplicating it in a different place, is quite
interesting as applies to color memory. When I'm in the grading
suite, working on commercials, I often test myself in matching
sequences without doing comparisons, and then when I think the match
is perfect, checking myself- it has actually improved my color memory
substantially. There are exercises for improving memory circuits that
are well-known, such as reviewing, hours later, every thought and act
upon first waking up after a good sleep. I use the "blind match
attempt" (well actually not completely blind) to build speed and
acuity. But this is done in the course of a time frame of hours,
though sometimes days, and in the same place. In the case of
features, colorists who have a good projection system in the suite
are at an advantage.
