  The quality margin between professional and better consumer monitoring options is such that the price differences are not warranted. For the prices they charge, there is no reason why they can't stack a monochrome  higher contrast (and more transmissive --- for better white levels) panel behind the standard color panel. It wouldn't even have to be a high bit depth, 4 bits would suffice if you consider a "back" display that was only active in the darker regions and totally transmissive beyond that.
