ah, the crud is software-based!  no wonder I couldn't get the cleaning  
staff to do anything about it :].

in the case of sliders, there is a lot of space for what starts as one- 
dimensional crud and ends up 2-dimensional: 2 strips of line-like crud  
on either side of the slider's grommets in the slots.

knobs, they're disappearing fast.  used to be, the KI (knob index) was  
the most important aspect of anything in the suite.  see
