That's also true. How much more development will depend on how much there will be a need.

On the flip-side, it may be that today's scanners are the pinnacle of 
scanner design (from a quality standpoint) and that the rapid 
transition to digital capture removes the investment necessary for 
further improvement. We already saw this happen with still-photo 
scanners.
