All of this consternation and concern over the release of proprietary 
software is clear evidence that what is needed is community-supported 
free open-source software which is not tied to the wims of some 
proprietary vendor.  Imagine what your world would be like if the 
software you used was free, you could modify it at will, run it on any 
computers you liked, contribute improvements, and know everything 
about the software because you have a copy of its underlying source
