Currently there is a raft of "4k" UltraHD TVs and projectors comming
out and some of them will be affordable for the enthusiast. These are
actually quad-HD rather than true 4k. Quad-HD is the current limit of
HDMI.

There are already UltraHD stand-alone players available. Some Blu-ray
players are already advertising "4k" output.

It remains to be seen how well RED and Odemax will fare given the
substantial competition for the few early-adopters who can afford to
pay for the equipment and service. Hopefully they have deep pockets
since it will take at least four years before there is a substantial
user base. Others have tried to start up this service model and
failed.

Sony has a program where if you buy their $25k flat-panel UltraHD TV,
they will provide you with a special player and a large collection of
movies for that format.
