Jim's work on the web

Jim Mann/Bio

I began my career as an assistant editor/colorist at JSL Video on 45th St. focusing entirely commercials. In 1988 I sought to get some “film under my belt” and joined duArt labs as a colorist. For the next 9 years I worked on long format projects, docs for PBS, features for Sony Classics, archival films and the occasional spot thrown in. At duArt, I was named the recipient of the 1995 International Monitor Award for Best Color Correction in a Documentary for my work on Bud Greenspan's film “Lillehammer '94: 16 Days of Glory”. In 1997 I resigned my position at duArt to launch a freelance career and became a Certified Instructor for the daVinci 2K PLUS™ color enhancement system. I went on to appear as a demo artist at NAB, IBC and continued to travel providing on-site Colorist training courses around the world. During this time I also did work for Aaton, Avid, Cintel, and Digital Vision for product development or trade show demos. In 2004 I moved to Europe and entered the world of DI, joining Synchro Film and Video, in Vienna, Austria. I served as head of DI operations using the Nucoda film master to conform, color correct, dust bust, tweak LUTs, composite titles, you name it I did it. Today, I work mostly in NYC as a independent contractor.

Jim has knowledge of these Color Correction platforms:

  • daVinci 2K PLUS(Certified Instructor)
